Services and Programs

Crittenton Family Support Services is designed to help parents address their basic needs while also providing them with the tools, skills, and resources to become better care givers. The program helps parents with basic issues such as food and shelter, as well as mental health services, violence prevention referrals, and parenting workshops. FSSP includes the following components: Family Advocates, Crittenton Dads, and Crittenton Moms.

Family Advocates

Family Advocates are FCS staff trained to assist clients struggling with basic needs, including food, clothing, shelter, jobs, and violence prevention. An FCS Family Advocate helps each family complete a family goal checklist to identify the areas in which the parents need help. The Family Advocate then works with the family to determine a plan of action and work toward their goals. Family Advocates deliver workshops on family/child-related topics such as nutrition, positive discipline, and child development, as well as on financial topics, including renters’ rights and tax credits. In addition, Family Advocates host monthly Parent Meetings. Family Advocates services are available to all FCS clients, including those who are utilizing child care services or the jobs program, as well as those participating in the Crittenton Dads or Moms programs.

Crittenton Dads

Crittenton Dads is designed to help men strengthen their role as parents. In collaboration with Child Support Services and Family Court, the program reaches out to low-income, custodial, and non-custodial fathers, helping them appreciate and embrace the vital roles they play in the emotional and financial lives of their children. FCS provides counseling, parenting skills, and other services to help them become positive role models for their children. Treatment is “trauma informed,” designed to lessen the impact of chronic stress on men. Crittenton Dads includes Individual and Group Therapy as well as a Father-Child Bonding Group. Individual Therapy and Group Therapy (Men’s Circle): Individual therapy allows men to interact in one-on-one settings with a counselor or therapist while working toward identifying and changing unhealthy behaviors, enhancing coping mechanisms, and strengthening critical thinking skills. Group therapy provides an opportunity for men to work collectively on the skills listed above.

Crittenton Moms

Newly launched Crittenton Moms offers some of the same components as Crittenton Dads, including both one-on-one and group therapy. The program helps mothers understand that some of the patterns and habits they have acquired are not appropriate or healthy for their children and provides them with alternative behaviors to help improve their care giving.
