Every day, FCS staff-members bear witness to the arduous journeys children and parents embark upon -- reflecting on their lives, assessing their progress, dreaming of a brighter future, drafting plans to achieve those dreams. We understand the power of uniting our community, of ensuring that families ascend from surviving to thriving. In San Francisco, licensed child care is available to less than half of the children with parents in the labor force. Nearly 4,300 children languish on subsidized child care eligibility waiting lists. Eighty percent of eligible families cannot find care. Cost is prohibitive for most families. Child care center prices average more than $1,000-a-month, nearly the full salary of one minimum-wage worker. So, our work continues. But it does not take place in a vacuum. It flows directly from individual volunteers/donors, businesses, corporations, foundations, government and other non-profit partners who help us fill the margin of excellence between mediocre service and high-quality care. We welcome donations and other financial gifts as well as individuals and groups who would like to volunteer their time. Each and everyone's participation helps the continued support of Florence Crittenton Services and the families we serve. |
